The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled 12,461 two-piece children's loungewear sets on September 10, 2026, citing a violation of the mandatory federal flammability standard for children's sleepwear. The sets were sold under the Sweet Cubby brand on SHEIN.com, and they illustrate a gap that matters specifically to parents who seek flame-retardant-free pajamas.
The CPSC's recall notice (26-752) names Hong Kong Xuheyuan Trading Co., Ltd., doing business as Sweet Cubby, as the retailer. The affected sets consist of a short-sleeved shirt and matching shorts in sizes 5-6Y through 13-14Y, in various colors, sold between June 2025 and May 2026 at prices between $8 and $12.
What the federal standard requires
Federal law sets two paths to compliance for children's sleepwear in sizes 0 through 14. A manufacturer may treat the fabric with an approved chemical flame retardant to pass a standardized burn test. Or a manufacturer may produce garments to tight-fitting specifications defined by the CPSC: cut close enough to the body that brief contact with a flame does not allow fire time to spread. This second path is why FR-free sleepwear exists in the first place. Organic cotton, wool, and other natural-fiber pajamas can meet the standard without any chemical treatment, as long as they are labeled and cut to the tight-fitting specifications the regulation requires.
Sweet Cubby's sets met neither path. The garments are loose-fitting and carry no FR treatment, placing them in violation of 16 C.F.R. Parts 1615 and 1616. The CPSC is directing consumers to stop using the sets immediately, cut them in half, photograph the cut pieces, and email the photo to SweetCubby@163.com for a full refund.
How this reaches children's bedrooms
The "loungewear" label does significant work here. Federal sleepwear rules attach to garments that are marketed as sleepwear or are sized to imply that use. A garment labeled as loungewear, daywear, or playwear falls under a different regulatory framework, and some importers use that designation to sidestep testing requirements. In practice, two-piece shorts sets at $8 to $12 from fast-fashion platforms are widely worn to bed, particularly through warmer months. The sizes covered by this recall, 5-6Y through 13-14Y, span the range where children increasingly sleep alone, which changes how quickly a parent can intervene in an emergency.
What to do
Parents who purchased Sweet Cubby two-piece sets from SHEIN.com in sizes 5-6Y through 13-14Y between June 2025 and May 2026 should stop use immediately and follow the CPSC refund instructions. For parents building a sleepwear wardrobe that is both FR-free and legally compliant, the phrase to look for is "tight-fitting" on the label. Wool and inherently flame-resistant natural fibers are a second option. If you are shopping for children's sleepwear that has been vetted against the standard this recall highlights, the product directory is filtered using the same criteria.
