Cookie Policy
Last updated: June 5, 2026.
This Cookie Policy explains how nontoxicnook ("we," "us," "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on nontoxicnook.com (the "Site"). It supplements our Privacy Policy.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website you visit. They are widely used to make sites work, to remember your preferences, and to provide aggregated usage information to site operators. Similar technologies — including local storage, session storage, and pixels — serve comparable purposes and are covered by this policy.
Cookies set by the Site itself are called first-party cookies. Cookies set by a service we embed (like Google Analytics) are called third-party cookies.
2. Categories of cookies we use
2a. Strictly necessary
These cookies are essential for the Site to function and cannot be disabled in our systems. They are usually set in response to actions you take (logging in, setting preferences, submitting a form). You can block them in your browser, but parts of the Site will not work.
| Cookie | Purpose | Party | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
__nn_consent | Stores your cookie consent choice so the banner does not reappear and so analytics know whether they may load. | First-party | 6 months |
__nn_trust | Tracks whether you've dismissed the editorial trust banner. | First-party | 6 months |
better-auth.session_token (and related) | Maintains your authenticated session if you have an account. | First-party | Session / up to 30 days |
| Rate-limit / abuse signals | Server-side identifiers used to prevent automated abuse and to honor per-IP rate limits. | First-party | Short-lived |
2b. Analytics (consent-based)
These cookies help us understand how visitors use the Site so we can improve content, layout, and performance. They are set only after you click "Accept" in the consent banner. Until then, no analytics cookies are placed and no measurement requests are sent.
| Cookie | Purpose | Party | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Distinguishes anonymous users for Google Analytics 4. | Third-party (Google) | Up to 2 years |
_ga_<container> | Persists session state for GA4. | Third-party (Google) | Up to 2 years |
Other GA4 cookies (_gid, _gat, etc.) | Throttling and per-session deduplication. | Third-party (Google) | Up to 24 hours |
We do not enable Google Signals, demographics, advertising features, or any cross-site personalization in Google Analytics. IP addresses are anonymized by Google before storage.
2c. Advertising / targeting
We do not use advertising or retargeting cookies. nontoxicnook is supported by affiliate commissions, not display advertising. Affiliate link clicks are tracked through outbound URLs and an anonymized server-side click event (see Privacy Policy §2b) — no advertising cookie is set on your device by nontoxicnook for this purpose.
If you click an outbound affiliate link, the destination merchant or the affiliate network may set its own cookies on the merchant's domain to attribute the visit. Those cookies are controlled by the merchant and the network, not by nontoxicnook.
3. Why we keep the list short
We are an editorial site. Cookies are used for site functionality and (with your consent) anonymized usage measurement — nothing else.
4. How to manage your cookie preferences
You have several controls:
- Consent banner. The banner appears on first visit. Choose "Accept" to allow analytics or "Reject" to keep only strictly necessary cookies. Your choice is stored in the
__nn_consentcookie. To change your choice later, clear that cookie in your browser and the banner will reappear, or contact us to revoke consent. - Global Privacy Control (GPC). If your browser sends a GPC signal, we treat it as an opt-out of sale/sharing for purposes of US state privacy laws (see Privacy Policy §10).
- Browser controls. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. See the help pages for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Brave. Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will break parts of the Site, including login.
- Opt out of Google Analytics globally. Install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- Account deletion. Deleting your account also removes any session cookie tied to it.
5. Sub-processors
Cookies and similar technologies on the Site may be facilitated by our hosting and analytics providers. See the Privacy Policy §5 for the current list of sub-processors.
6. Changes
We update this policy as the Site evolves. When we make material changes, we update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, surface notice on the Site.
