Most shaker bottles are made from polypropylene or ABS. Even the ones labeled BPA-free often use replacement bisphenols (BPS, BPF) that are under increasing regulatory scrutiny. For someone mixing a daily protein shake, that is a meaningful amount of contact hours with a material category whose long-term safety profile is still being written.

These seven bottles avoid the problem at the source. Each has a stainless steel or titanium body and a metal lid with a silicone gasket. Nothing plastic contacts the drink.

What we look for

The screen starts with two hard requirements: a metal body (18/8 stainless steel or Grade 1 or Grade 5 titanium) and a metal lid with no plastic component contacting the liquid. A silicone gasket is accepted. A plastic inner ring, collar, or thread that the liquid touches is not.

Beyond the material gate, four things matter for a shaker bottle in practice:

Mouth diameter. Standard protein powder scoops are roughly 60mm wide. A standard bottle neck is 38mm, which means the scoop does not fit cleanly. Wide-mouth bottles (50mm or more) accept most scoops directly. Narrower bottles work fine with a metal or silicone funnel. We note which path each pick requires.

Capacity. A standard post-workout shake runs 16 to 24oz. Most picks here fall in that window. The Valtcan 1000ml is the option for athletes who want to mix a large batch.

Seal quality. Shakes are thicker and messier than water. Positive thread engagement and a silicone gasket that creates a reliable compression seal matter more for a shaker than for a water bottle.

Material disclosure. We only list brands that name the alloy grade on the product page. A brand that says "titanium" without naming the grade provides no verification path.

Our picks

1. Keith Ti3032 Titanium Sport Bottle 24oz

Keith Ti3032 Grade 1 Titanium Plastic-Free Sport Bottle 23.6 fl oz

The Keith Ti3032 is the pick to make if eliminating plastic from the entire bottle is the goal. The body is Grade 1 pure titanium (the softest grade, with the highest corrosion resistance). The cap is titanium. The only non-metal component in the liquid path is a silicone gasket at the cap seal.

Grade 1 titanium is the same alloy used in medical implants and surgical instruments. It does not react with food acids, does not develop a metallic taste over time, and does not require a coating to protect against corrosion.

The Ti3032 is a 24oz single-wall design. At 38mm inner diameter, it is not a true wide-mouth bottle, so a narrow funnel helps with dry powder dispensing. Liquid mixes pour in without issue. The single-wall construction keeps weight down and makes the bottle easy to clean fully.

2. Klean Kanteen Classic 18oz Brushed Stainless

Klean Kanteen Classic 18oz Brushed Stainless

The Klean Kanteen Classic 18oz is the lowest-cost path to a metal-lid shaker bottle, with one caveat: the standard Flip Seal Sport Cap ships with a plastic drinking spout. The fix is the Steel Loop Cap, a machined 18/8 stainless steel cap with a silicone gasket, sold separately for around $13. Bottle plus cap brings the total to around $33 for a complete stainless path.

The bottle body is seamless 18/8 stainless with no liner and no coating. The brushed finish hides scratches well. It is single-wall, so it does not insulate, but for a post-workout shake that you plan to drink within minutes that tradeoff is practical.

The Classic has a standard-width opening, so a protein powder funnel is useful for dispensing dry powder cleanly. Liquid pours in fine.

3. MiiR Wide Mouth 20oz

MiiR Wide Mouth Water Bottle 20oz Insulated Stainless Steel

The MiiR Wide Mouth 20oz is the double-wall stainless option in the guide. It keeps drinks cold longer than single-wall titanium, and the 50mm wide mouth means most protein powder scoops drop in without a funnel. The lid is stainless steel with a silicone seal ring.

MiiR is a Certified B Corp. Each purchase funds verified clean-water projects through their Give Code program; the specific project tied to your purchase is trackable through the code printed on the bottle. That supply-chain transparency extends to their material sourcing: the bottle body is declared 18/8 stainless with no proprietary liner language.

At $35 it sits between the budget KK and the premium titanium picks. For someone who wants double-wall stainless with a wide mouth and does not want to think about a separate cap purchase, this is the cleaner single-transaction option.

4. Boundless Voyage Titanium Water Bottle 750ml

Boundless Voyage Titanium Water Bottle 750ml

At $34, the Boundless Voyage 750ml is the most affordable titanium bottle in the guide. The body is single-wall titanium; the cap is titanium with a silicone seal. No plastic.

The 750ml capacity (25oz) is on the larger end for a single-serving shake, which is useful if you train hard enough to need more liquid than a standard 20oz shake. The tradeoff is weight: a larger titanium bottle is heavier than the slim 600ml options.

The inner mouth diameter was not confirmed in our research, so a protein funnel is a practical addition if you use a standard scoop. Liquid pre-mixes pour in without issue.

5. SilverAnt Ultralight Titanium Water Bottle 600ml Slim

SilverAnt Ultralight Titanium Water Bottle 600ml Slim

The SilverAnt 600ml Slim is the lightest bottle in this guide and the easiest to carry in a tight bottle pocket. SilverAnt publishes the alloy grade (Grade 1 titanium) and country of manufacture (Taiwan) on the product page, which is more disclosure than most budget titanium brands provide.

The slim profile means the mouth diameter is narrower than a wide-mouth design. A powder funnel is useful for adding protein powder; liquid pre-mixes pour in without issue.

Note: as of late September 2026 both color variants show out of stock on the SilverAnt website. The product is listed with no stated restock date. There is no Amazon listing for this specific model. Availability may improve; we are tracking it.

6. Vargo Bot-700 Titanium Water Bottle 650ml

Vargo BOT-700 Titanium Water Bottle 650ml

The Vargo Bot-700 brings outdoor-gear build quality to a gym bottle. Vargo has been producing titanium backpacking equipment in the US since 2001, and the thread quality and weld finish on the Bot-700 reflect that production history. Body is titanium; cap is titanium; only the silicone gasket adds any non-metal component.

The standard Bot-700 opening is around 38mm, narrow enough that a protein funnel helps with dry powder. The cylindrical shape with no taper makes thorough cleaning straightforward and reduces rattle in a bottle cage.

At $84.95 it is priced similarly to the SilverAnt but with stronger Amazon availability and a longer US brand history for warranty support.

7. Valtcan Titanium Water Bottle 1000ml

Valtcan Titanium Water Bottle 1000ml

The Valtcan 1000ml is for athletes who want to mix a full session's worth of shakes at once. At 34oz it is the largest bottle in the guide, with a wide-mouth opening that accepts most protein powder scoops directly without a funnel.

Valtcan publishes the titanium grade on the product page (Grade 1) and lists the total weight at 219g, light for a one-liter container. The brand has a longer history in titanium cookware than in bottles, and the machining quality reflects that background.

Note: as of September 2026 this bottle is backordered with an estimated ship date of November 2026. The product page is live; the stock gap is a supply issue, not a discontinuation.

What we passed on

Nalgene and standard plastic shakers were excluded on first-principles grounds. Polypropylene body and lid, full stop.

Hydro Flask Wide Mouth 20oz comes standard with a polypropylene Flex Cap. Hydro Flask sells stainless lid accessories, but their material disclosure on the lid's inner components was insufficient to verify the polymer grade. We could not confirm the sealing ring specification.

S'well 17oz uses 18/8 stainless steel for the body, but the proprietary lid includes a plastic inner seal that contacts the drink. The polymer grade is not published.

Zojirushi SM-KHE36 is a well-made stainless bottle with a flip-top lid. The inner cap assembly has a plastic sealing component that contacts liquid. Material disclosure on that component was not available.

FAQ

Are titanium water bottles safe for daily protein shakes?

Yes. Grade 1 and Grade 5 titanium are among the most chemically inert materials in consumer products. Titanium does not react with food acids, does not corrode under typical use conditions, and has a well-established biocompatibility profile in medical applications. The risk profile for a water bottle is essentially zero.

Is 18/8 stainless steel safe for protein shakes?

Yes. 18/8 (also labeled 304 stainless) is the food-contact standard. It contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel. In normal use at ambient temperatures, nickel leaching is well below any established safety threshold. The FDA and EFSA both consider 304 stainless acceptable for food contact.

Does protein powder damage stainless steel or titanium?

No. Standard whey, casein, and plant-based protein powders are not acidic enough to affect food-grade stainless steel or titanium. Rinse promptly after use to prevent residue buildup; both metals are easy to clean.

What size is best for a post-workout shake?

16oz to 24oz covers a standard serving with room for liquid. 18oz and 20oz are the most common sizes here. If you use a large scoop (over 40g) or mix multiple servings at once, the Boundless Voyage 750ml or Valtcan 1000ml give more headroom.

Do I need a stainless steel mixing ball?

A wire whisk ball (the BlenderBall style) will work in any of these bottles. The original BlenderBall wire whisk is stainless steel with no plastic parts. Avoid silicone or plastic mixing balls if keeping the metal-only path matters.

Can I use these bottles for hot drinks?

Single-wall titanium and single-wall stainless bottles (Keith, Klean Kanteen Classic, SilverAnt, Boundless Voyage, Vargo, Valtcan) transfer heat quickly and will be hot to the touch with hot liquids. The MiiR Wide Mouth uses double-wall vacuum insulation and is suitable for hot beverages. Protein shakes are served cold, so this is rarely an issue in practice.
